The San Diego Padres have placed catcher Freddy Fermin on the 7-day concussion injured list due to multiple head impacts this season. The decision came after Fermin was struck in the head by a warmup pitch from reliever Yuki Matsui on Saturday. Manager Craig Stammen cited Fermin being "a little woozy" and having experienced "a few head shots" this year as reasons for the move. To fill the roster spot, the Padres selected catcher Blake Hunt from Triple-A El Paso and designated pitcher Ty Adcock for assignment. In a separate incident on Saturday, Padres infielder Xander Bogaerts was hit on the helmet by a 93.5-mph pitch from Orioles starter Trey Gibson but remained in the game and later scored. Bogaerts has played in 52 games this season, batting .245 with seven home runs, nine stolen bases, 24 RBI, and 22 runs scored.
