PONS, the native token of the Pons meme coin factory on Robinhood Chain, has experienced a dramatic surge, trading at $0.5978 on September 3, up 31.82% in 24 hours and approximately 18,000% from its July 17 low of $0.0033. This rapid ascent has propelled PONS to become Robinhood Chain's largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, surpassing CashCat.
The Pons platform functions as a simplified cryptocurrency launchpad, allowing users to create tokens with a fixed 1 billion supply without requiring coding expertise. All transactions are managed through the creator's wallet, with Pons itself not handling user funds. The platform operates exclusively on Robinhood Chain, a layer-2 network introduced by Robinhood on July 1, designed for tokenized stocks and DeFi applications, though meme coins have become its primary traffic driver.
Pons gained prominence shortly after Robinhood Chain's mainnet launch, absorbing significant activity after a rival platform, Noxa, ceased new launches. Initially trading at a fraction of a cent, PONS saw an early rally before a competitive threat from Uniswap's zero-fee launchpad, Pools.trade, caused a price crash. However, a tokenomics strategy involving an 80% revenue buyback-and-burn mechanism, which has reduced the token supply by roughly 29%, helped PONS recover and rally significantly in late August.
Vlad Tenev, co-founder of Robinhood, noted the ecosystem's activity, mentioning that holding meme coins on Robinhood Chain can result in stock token airdrops. On September 2, Binance Wallet added PONS to its Alpha trading tier, further boosting its visibility. As of September 3, the Pons platform reported $5.95 million in daily fees, ranking it fourth among all crypto protocols tracked by DefiLlama and briefly out-earning Robinhood Chain itself.
