A police officer in Columbia, South Carolina, was killed and another was injured on Saturday during a shooting incident at Southeast Park. The suspect also died, according to Columbia Police Department Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook. The incident reportedly began when two officers responded to a domestic dispute. Holbrook stated that the deceased officer was 29 years old and had been with the department for two years, survived by a wife and two young children. The second officer sustained injuries during a gunfight and is reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was identified as a 33-year-old man with a significant criminal history. The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is leading the investigation into the shooting at the request of the Columbia Police Department, with assistance from the Richland County Sheriff's Department. Southeast Park, the location of the incident, is a 62-acre facility located southeast of the S.C. State House.
