New York City Mayor Eric Adams renewed his call to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after an ICE agent was shot near a hospital on Thursday. The agent, whose identity and immigration status were not immediately known, was struck in the neck and taken to a nearby hospital by NYPD officers. He was conscious and in stable condition as of Thursday evening, according to an NYPD spokesperson.
Adams used the incident to reiterate his demand for the federal immigration agency to be disbanded. "Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery," Adams wrote on social media. "Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children. Abolish ICE."
