A person was shot and wounded on Thursday in an encounter with US Department of Homeland Security agents in New York City, metropolitan police said.
The shooting occurred at around 4 p.m. ET in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx, and the individual who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital, the New York Police Department said.
The NYPD stated that its officers were not involved in the shooting. Federal authorities are investigating the incident, and an FBI spokesperson confirmed that an evidence response team was en route to the scene to assist DHS investigators.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated she had been briefed on the situation and expects federal authorities to provide a full and transparent account. City Council Speaker Julie Menin also expressed concern and called for transparency from federal authorities.
