Mitsubishi UFJ Bank and JCB are jointly targeting Southeast Asia's affluent consumers with a new luxury credit card, aiming to capitalize on growing travel demand to Japan. The initiative seeks to differentiate themselves in the competitive wealth management market by offering exclusive services and rewards tailored for visitors to Japan.
The new card will initially be rolled out in Indonesia and Thailand. This strategy is designed to encourage higher spending from wealthy individuals during their trips to Japan.
In a related development, JCB International Co., Ltd. has partnered with Philippine National Bank (PNB) to launch the PNB JCB Platinum Credit Card in the Philippines. This card is aimed at Filipino consumers who utilize a mix of digital, in-person, and international payment methods. It features rewards points, flexible payment options, and access to JCB's merchant and travel network, with a particular focus on Japan.
Key features of the PNB JCB Platinum card include an automatic three-month instalment option for eligible online purchases of at least $480 (P30,000), converting them without additional interest. Cardholders earn one rewards point for every $1.12 (P70) spent, with an accelerated rate of one point for every $0.64 (P40) spent on transactions in Japan or billed in Japanese yen. These points can be redeemed as cash credits. The card also provides access to select overseas airport lounges and JCB's multilingual concierge service for travelers, along with exclusive offers in Japan.
Furthermore, JCB is set to launch a dedicated app for its overseas card members visiting Japan. This app aims to improve the experience by providing information on deals and affiliated merchants, addressing a previous challenge in reaching traveling members with timely information.
