Speaking on the issue, Smith stated that tax hikes were not the main driver behind the increase in young people out of work. Separately, Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden announced an additional £1 billion in spending aimed at addressing the issue of those not in education, employment, or training (NEETs).
