A major oil refinery in Afipsky, Russia, caught fire on June 11, 2026, following a reported Ukrainian weapons attack. Russian officials stated the fire was caused by falling drone debris, while Ukraine's military claimed responsibility for striking the facility and drone production sites.
The attack on the Afipsky refinery, a significant oil processing facility, highlights Ukraine's continued efforts to disrupt Russia's energy infrastructure and war-making capabilities.
A fire erupted at the Afipsky Oil Refinery in Russia's Krasnodar Krai on June 11, 2026, following what eyewitnesses described as a Ukrainian attack overnight. Photos and videos shared on social media depicted smoke and flames engulfing the facility.
The Afipsky Oil Refinery is one of the largest oil processing plants in southern Russia, producing gasoline, diesel fuel, and other petroleum products. It processes approximately 6.25 million tons of crude annually, accounting for about 2% of Russia's total refining output.
Residents reported hearing explosions and seeing air defense units active over the town. Russian officials in the Krasnodar region said a fire caused by falling drone debris had been extinguished at the site.
This is not the first time the Afipsky refinery has been targeted. Ukraine's General Staff reported a successful drone strike in March 2026 that caused a fire and damaged parts of the plant. Previous attacks were also reported in January 2026, and September and November 2025, all of which reportedly resulted in fires.
Ukraine has been conducting deep strikes against military and industrial facilities within Russia, utilizing domestically developed drones and missiles, as well as weapons supplied by international partners. Recent attacks have included strikes on military factories and other oil refineries.
