Police in New Delhi detained Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, on Saturday ahead of a protest organized by the youth movement. The demonstration was intended to demand the resignation of India's chief election commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar.
Authorities had banned the protest and imposed significant restrictions in the capital, including the suspension of mobile internet services. Police stated that permission for the demonstration was denied because the request was submitted late. TV channels reported that Dipke was met by police at Delhi airport upon his arrival from Mumbai and asked to call off the protest.
