The Indian Consulate General in Toronto has issued a warning to Indian citizens residing in Canada regarding fraudulent telephone calls. These calls are reportedly made by individuals impersonating consulate officials, aiming to solicit personal information and money under the guise of dealing with visas, immigration status, and job offers.
The consulate emphasized that official communications are exclusively conducted via email from the '@mea.gov.in' domain. In rare instances where consulate officials do make direct calls, they are mandated to disclose their name, department, and the nature and serial number of the application. Furthermore, the consulate stressed that its officials never demand payment over the phone.
