India has summoned the US Charge d'Affaires, Jason Meeks, for the second time in a week to lodge a strong protest against ongoing US military strikes on commercial vessels off the coast of Oman. The protests follow attacks that have resulted in the deaths of at least three Indian sailors.
The first incident involved a Palau-flagged oil tanker, Marivex, with 24 Indian seafarers, which was disabled by US forces on June 8. Subsequently, on June 10, another Palau-flagged tanker, Settebello, was struck, leading to the deaths of three of its 24 Indian crew members. On Thursday, a Guinea-Bissau-flagged tanker, MT Jalveer, carrying 20 Indian sailors, also came under attack.
India has emphasized the need for these actions to cease, highlighting the danger to innocent lives. The US diplomat was conveyed India's strong objection to the continued military actions. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, accused Iran of attempting to target Indian ships.
