India has sent a consignment of 20,000 doses of measles vaccines and approximately three tonnes of medical supplies to the Maldives. The aid is intended to help the island nation address rising measles cases and strengthen its immunization coverage.
The Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the "timely assistance" on social media, stating it reflected the close cooperation between the two countries. The Ministry of Health also expressed deep appreciation for India's continued partnership in public health.
The assistance is in line with India's role as a "trusted first responder" in the region and its "Neighbourhood First policy and Vision MAHASAGAR." The consignment was handed over at an official ceremony attended by Maldives Minister of Health, Family and Welfare, Geela Ali.
Earlier, Indian High Commissioner G Balasubramanian met with State Pharma Managing Director Shah Mahir to discuss further strengthening bilateral health cooperation.
