The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to eight food companies for allegedly using misleading brand names, trade names, and product claims, in violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The companies include Emami Healthy & Tasty, Health Aid, Troovy, The Healthy Factory, Healthy Master, Healthy Choice, Plan B, and Neuherbs.
Emami Healthy & Tasty, a cooking oil arm of the Emami Group, was flagged because its trade name is considered likely to mislead consumers. Plan B, which markets itself as 'plant based vegan,' drew attention for creating the impression of being vegan without obtaining prior approval for such an endorsement in its FSSAI license.
The Healthy Factory's 'Zero Maida Whole Wheat Bread' and 'zero maida pizza base' were cited for claims that appear to violate regulations. Neuherbs' 'True Vitamin' product line was noted for using a trade name that is neither defined nor recognized under FSSAI regulations, potentially misleading consumers. Troovy's snack products, marketed with 'healthy' claims, were also flagged despite containing various other ingredients.
Additionally, FSSAI pointed to Healthy Master's tagline 'Vision to serve healthy,' Healthy Choice's 'Healthy food for Healthy life Poha,' and Health Aid's brand name as potentially misleading consumers about the nature of their products.
