Competitors from Hong Kong's Construction Industry Council (CIC) achieved their strongest-ever performance at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, securing three Medallions for Excellence. The awards were presented on September 27, 2026.
Law Chak-sum was recognized for painting and decorating, Tse Yu-lok for welding, and the team of Huang To-kong and Wan Tsz-ho for concrete construction work. The concrete construction award marks a first for Hong Kong in this category.
Huang and Wan noted that overcoming differences through mutual understanding and trust was key to their success in the teamwork-required category. Tse Yu-lok expressed gratitude for the intensive training he received over the past year, crediting it for his personal growth. Law Chak-sum, despite initial frustrations and mistakes during training, was thrilled with his award.
Thomas Ho, Chairman of the CIC, stated that the achievements reflect the contestants' dedication and the CIC's efforts in talent development, hoping to inspire young people to explore skills-based careers. Albert Cheng, Executive Director of the CIC, highlighted that these successes send a message about the value of professional skills in building careers and fostering future leaders.
The WorldSkills Competition, held biennially since 1950, featured 64 skill categories this year.
