Ford Recalls Over 741,000 US Vehicles for Park System Defect

Ford is initiating a recall of 741,195 vehicles in the United States due to a defect in the transmission system that could compromise the park mechanism. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that this issue may lead to damage to the park system, increasing the risk of a vehicle rolling away unintentionally.

The affected vehicles, model years 2018 through 2021, may experience temporary engagement of their transmission parking pawl while in motion, potentially damaging park system components. If this damage occurs, the vehicle's ability to hold in park without the parking brake being applied may be compromised, raising the risk of a crash or injury.

Ford is aware of 24 allegations of property damage and nine alleged injuries related to this defect. Vehicle owners will receive mail notifications and will be instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a Powertrain Control Module software update. Dealers will also inspect the transmission for any damage and perform necessary repairs at no cost to the owner.
