Swiss First adds gourmet hot dog to first-class menu

Swiss International Air Lines is elevating its first-class dining experience by adding a gourmet hot dog to its in-flight menu. The "Bastardo" hot dog, created by Winterthur-based gourmet takeaway Frau Hund, founded by chefs Chris Maurer and Alex Prack, will be available on all flights departing from Switzerland until September 1.

This premium offering reinvents the classic fast food with a Swiss-made sausage, topped with coleslaw, apple chutney, sour cream, and roasted walnuts, all served on a Swiss multigrain roll. The collaboration came about after SWISS approached Frau Hund with the challenge of creating a premium hot dog suitable for consumption at high altitudes.

Chefs Maurer and Prack expressed pride in the partnership, seeing it as an opportunity to expand their reach globally and to challenge perceptions of what a hot dog can be. They noted that the bun required a redesign to ensure it remained stable and upright on the airline's porcelain tableware, aligning with SWISS's high standards for presentation and quality.
