Ford recalls over 548,000 US vehicles for defective center console

Ford is recalling a total of over 800,000 vehicles in the United States for two distinct safety concerns. The first recall impacts 548,463 vehicles, primarily certain 2018-2024 Ford Expedition models, due to a defective center console chrome plating. This plating may bubble, peel, and form sharp edges, posing an injury risk to passengers. Ford dealers will replace the center consoles free of charge.

The second recall involves 255,404 vehicles, including certain 2012-2018 Ford Focus models that were previously repaired incorrectly. This recall addresses an issue with the canister purge valve, which could malfunction and cause the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that dealers will update the powertrain control module software free of charge to remedy this defect. Affected vehicles may also exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator light or inaccurate fuel gauge readings.
