Zhou Jun, the former president of the state-owned conglomerate Shanghai Industrial Investment (Holdings) Co. Ltd. (SIIC), has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for corruption. The Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court announced the verdict on September 11, 2026.
According to the court, Zhou embezzled over 154 million yuan in public funds between 2019 and 2023 by leveraging his position as SIIC president and collaborating with others. Additionally, from 2006 to 2023, he used his senior roles within SIIC and its subsidiaries to facilitate corporate investments, business operations, and project settlements for individuals in exchange for bribes totaling more than 21.5 million yuan. The total amount involved in the embezzlement and bribery case exceeds 175 million yuan, equivalent to approximately $26 million.
