EVgo to build Tesla Superchargers under license in US

The V4 Superchargers, capable of delivering up to 500 kW and operating at up to 1000 V, will feature both NACS and CCS1 plugs. A key benefit for Tesla owners is that these EVgo-deployed chargers will appear in Tesla's in-car navigation app and be integrated into the vehicle's route planner. EVgo will retain ownership and operational control of the charging sites, managing aspects like site host engagement, utility connections, and pricing.

Drivers of non-Tesla electric vehicles will also be able to utilize these V4 chargers through the Tesla app. EVgo stated that the cables will be designed with sufficient length to accommodate various charge port locations on different EV models, addressing a common issue with earlier V3 chargers. EVgo CEO Badar Khan highlighted the deployment as a way to provide more charging infrastructure options across America and welcome more Tesla and NACS drivers to its network.

This licensing agreement is part of Tesla's effort to generate revenue beyond vehicle sales, as the company faces increased operational costs and invests in areas like robotics and AI. The licensing fees and ongoing returns from deployed Superchargers are expected to be a welcome financial contribution.
