UK anti-migrant group founder denies slashing dinghy

Far-right activist Daniel Thomas, 37, pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal damage and failing to disclose his phone PIN to police. The charges stem from an incident on Tuesday in the English Channel where Thomas allegedly slashed a dinghy carrying a French rescuer.

Thomas, who appeared via videolink at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court, also denied failing to provide his phone's PIN under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000. Prosecutor Kevin Lucie told the court that Thomas slashed the adrift boat with a knife, stating, "You are on English territory. This is England. This is not France any more." The court heard a crew member was on the boat while it was leaking air. Thomas requested a crown court trial.

Thomas was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 29. He is known to his supporters as Danny Tommo. Far-right activist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson, was present in the public gallery to support Thomas.

On Thursday evening, hundreds of people gathered outside a police investigation center in Basingstoke, believing Thomas was held there. Protesters chanted "Free DT" and "Get Danny out." The demonstration, monitored by police, began to disperse after news of Thomas's charges emerged.
