A knife attack at a Benedictine abbey in Jaroslaw, Poland, on Thursday morning resulted in one death and at least four injuries, according to local media reports. Police detained a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen at the scene.
The incident occurred at the Benedictine Sisters monastery, located on the grounds of the abbey, around 9:30 a.m. local time, approximately thirty minutes before a scheduled Mass. Several churchgoers were present when the assailant began stabbing individuals. Father Stanisław died from severe chest injuries, while Father Marek sustained critical stab wounds and remains under medical supervision. Another priest, Father Adrian, was also injured. A woman and another victim also received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński confirmed the suspect's arrest and stated that investigations are underway to determine the motives and circumstances of the attack. Jarosław Mayor Marcin Nazarewicz convened a meeting of the municipal crisis management team and advised local schools and offices to increase vigilance.
