Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) announced it has established new records for grain and grain product transportation during September and the third quarter of 2026. These achievements surpass previous benchmarks set in 2020.
In Canada, CPKC transported 2.94 million metric tonnes and 30,324 carloads of grain and grain products in September 2026, marking the second consecutive record month to start the 2026-2027 crop year. The period spanning July, August, and September 2026 also set a third-quarter record for both carloads and metric tonnes of Canadian grain.
In the United States, the railway moved 2.51 million metric tonnes and 26,236 carloads of grain and grain products in September 2026. Similarly, the third quarter of 2026 saw record carloads and metric tonnes for U.S. grain transport.
Combined, the September 2026 figures for both Canada and the U.S. represent new monthly and quarterly records for total carloads and metric tonnes. CPKC had previously released its 2026-2027 Grain Service Outlook Report on July 31, 2026, detailing its plans for reliable service throughout the crop year. As of Week 8, CPKC had transported over 4.99 million metric tonnes and 51,268 carloads of Canadian grain and grain products.
