Bulgarian businessman Iliyan Filipov shot dead in Plovdiv

According to initial, unconfirmed official information, Filipov was shot in the head. The Ministry of Interior is expected to announce official details about the crime scene, the manner of the murder, possible suspects, and the main versions of the case.

Police had blocked the main exit and entry points in Plovdiv, which is located about 90 miles southeast of the capital Sofia. The area around the crime scene has been cordoned off, and traffic on several streets has been restricted due to the actions of investigators.

"We are actively pursuing all possible leads," Plovdiv District Prosecutor Vanya Hristeva said in a briefing. There is no information on whether any persons are detained or wanted.

Filipov was the founder and head of PIMK, a major company in the transport sector that has also expanded into construction. He was also a key figure associated with FC Botev Plovdiv and involved in the construction of the "Hristo Botev" stadium.
