Bollywood softens China portrayal amid shifting India sentiment

Previously, China was frequently depicted as a villain in India's public discourse, particularly following the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes. This sentiment led to the removal of Chinese apps and tightened investment rules. In December, Chinese state media criticized a Bollywood film then titled 'The Battle of Galwan' for allegedly distorting historical facts, though New Delhi reportedly defended it on artistic freedom grounds.

However, public sentiment has shifted in recent months. A film referencing the conflict has since been renamed and its release delayed due to reshoots aimed at softening its portrayal of China. Another film based on the 2020 clashes has been quietly shelved, with producers advised to avoid negative depictions of China. This development is significant as Moscow is actively promoting a Russia-India-China strategic triangle, a concept that relies on easing tensions between India and China.
