Battersea Power Station has ruled out suggestions that its undeveloped estate could be used to host an arena for the NBA's planned European league. Sources cited by The Athletic indicated that discussions had occurred between intermediaries regarding proposals for the site, which was one of many locations being considered for a London-based franchise.
The NBA is reportedly targeting autumn 2027 for the launch of a 16-team competition in Europe, with London expected to be one of 12 cities hosting permanent franchises. The redevelopment of Battersea Power Station was previously the subject of a bid by Chelsea FC, which unsuccessfully proposed incorporating its iconic chimneys into a 60,000-seat stadium before the site was acquired for its current redevelopment.
Elsewhere, Galatasaray board member Mecit Mert Cetinkaya expressed confidence that the Turkish club could become the first from Turkey to join NBA Europe, noting ongoing negotiations over business and financial terms. Meanwhile, Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade President Zeljko Drcelic confirmed talks with NBA representatives but stressed the Serbian club's current priority is securing a long-term EuroLeague license.
