Nicholas Brandram, 44, a senior banker at HSBC and the suspect in the 2017 "Putney pusher" case, was found dead at his home in Chiswick, west London, on Tuesday evening. The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers attended the property alongside paramedics after a man was found unresponsive. "Sadly, a 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed," a spokesperson for the force said. Police are treating his death as "unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious." A file will be prepared for the coroner.
Brandram was arrested in June this year on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm in connection with the 2017 incident on Putney Bridge, where a woman was pushed into the path of an oncoming bus. CCTV footage showed the woman falling into the road, with the jogger running on. The bus driver managed to swerve, narrowly avoiding serious injury to the woman. The Met had initially closed its investigation in 2018 after three men were arrested and released without charge, but reopened the case. Brandram had been released on bail following his arrest in June and was re-bailed with no conditions in September.
Brandram, who had previously served as a Captain in the Scots Guards in Afghanistan, was working as a senior relationship manager in private banking for HSBC. He is a descendant of European royalty, being the grandson of Princess Katherine of Greece, who was the great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria. His father's godfather was the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. In 2013, he was convicted of crashing his motorbike into a female cyclist and driving off without leaving details. In a March interview with Citywealth, Brandram described himself as a co-parenting single father and cited his mother's resilience and moral integrity as an inspiration.
