Argentina to file criminal charges against Navitas Petroleum over Falklands drilling

President Javier Milei had previously stated his intention to sanction oil companies involved in drilling activities in the Falklands. According to a statement from the presidency, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno is set to file the criminal complaint against several Navitas subsidiaries, their partners operating in the territory, and their corporate directors. The government alleges that these firms have violated Argentine law by holding hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation licenses issued by the United Kingdom in the North Falkland Basin.

Last week, Milei specifically targeted the Sea Lion offshore oil project, operated by Navitas Petroleum, announcing measures that could extend penalties to shareholders, directors, and suppliers. Navitas Petroleum holds a 65% stake in the Sea Lion field. Gideon Tadmor, the company's chairman, holds approximately 9% of its shares.
