The Union Cabinet has approved two significant central government infrastructure projects in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, with a combined investment exceeding Rs 2,534 crore. These projects aim to bolster the administrative infrastructure in the state's capital city.
The approved projects include a Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) complex, estimated at Rs 1,299 crore, and a General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) campus, costing Rs 1,234.91 crore. The office complex is slated for development on a 5.53-acre site, featuring 23.25 lakh sq ft of built-up area, intended to house various central government departments and public sector undertakings currently operating from nearby cities.
The residential project, the first GPRA campus in Amaravati, will span 17 acres and include 11 towers with 1,504 dwelling units. It aims to alleviate accommodation issues for central government employees, reduce commute times, and enhance administrative efficiency. The campus will be equipped with amenities such as a bank, post office, crèche, and community hall, alongside barrier-free infrastructure for persons with disabilities.
Both developments are committed to green building norms, with the GPRA campus targeting a minimum 4-star GRIHA rating. The government anticipates that the residential project alone will generate approximately seven lakh man-days of employment annually during its construction phase and around 50,000 man-days per year during operations. These investments come as the central government increases its focus on Amaravati's development, following the Andhra Pradesh government's reaffirmation of the city as the state capital.
