Shadow Defence Minister James Paterson says the possibility of granting a child sex offender a visa to stay in Australia is a “mockery” to “our whole migration system”. “He would be no risk to any Australian if he was no longer in Australia,” Mr Paterson told News24 host Peta Credlin. “If we allow sex offenders, child sex offenders to stay because somehow it would be a psychological benefit to them and they may be less likely to commit crimes, then we are making a mockery of our whole migration system. “He [Tony Burke] should step in and make sure this person is deported and deported without delay.”
