‘Legislate based on the minority’: Gambling reforms clear parliament but draw criticisms

Broadcaster Lucy Zelic says while gambling reforms are a good thing “legislating our way through” every problem Australia has is not the answer. “I made my positions on this pretty clear, I don’t like that when it comes to these types of issues that we automatically start blaming external forces,” Ms Zelic told News24 host Paul Murray. “I don’t like that we’re in a situation we’re starting to legislate based on the minority that have been forced or thrust into situations that have proved to be undesirable. “I’ve seen the very awful impacts of gambling firsthand and how it can destroy families, but at the same time I don’t think that legislating our way through every single thing in society is also the answer.”
