5.9-magnitude earthquake rocks New Zealand’s North Island

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded near Te Araroa on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island at around 8:30 pm local time, according to GeoNet. The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 39 kilometres and was felt by more than 5,000 people. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and it remains unclear if any damage or power outages occurred.
