​Spiked Chief Political Writer Brendan O’Neill says European governments are "failing enormously" at their number one job of protecting borders. ​“A lot of people will agree that the very first job of the state … is to protect the borders, to govern the borders, to police the borders, to make sure that no product or no human beings cross those borders without permission of the state,” Mr O’Neill told News24 host Jaimee Rogers. ​“Across Europe, states are failing on that enormously. ​“They are letting huge numbers of men cross their borders every single day.”
