Trade and Industry Minister Tan See Leng says Singapore risks losing good talent if the financial cost of entering politics becomes too high. He said the challenge is reducing the opportunity cost for Singaporeans to step forward and join the government earlier, while they are still in the prime of their careers. A former medical doctor, Dr Tan gave up a nearly 30-year career to enter politics in 2020. He shared that he would never have entered politics if money was his primary consideration. He also stressed that the review of political salaries is not about matching ministers' salary to private sector pay. Ivy Chok reports.
