Millions affected as severe weather batters Philippines' Luzon for weeks

More than 30 people have died this month in the Philippines from severe flooding caused by multiple weather systems. The country is dealing with the southwest monsoon, three cyclones and a low pressure area that could develop into a fourth cyclone within the next 24 hours. Officials say heavy rains and floods have affected some 2.5 million families. A state of calamity has been declared in several cities and municipalities in the northern island of Luzon. Farmers and fisherfolk have held a protest in Bulacan province, blaming chronic flooding in the province on corruption, anomalous flood control projects and environmental destruction.
