Key facts
- YouTube Music labels will indicate "Fully Gen AI," "Partly Gen AI," or "No Gen AI."
- AI involvement alone does not make a track ineligible for monetization on YouTube.
YouTube Music on Wednesday introduced new labels to identify songs created with generative AI. The labels will appear on player pages and in the main YouTube app, indicating whether a track is "Fully Gen AI," "Partly Gen AI," or "No Gen AI." This move aims to increase transparency as AI-generated music proliferates across streaming platforms.

The proliferation of AI-generated music across streaming platforms necessitates clear labeling to inform listeners and creators. YouTube's approach focuses on disclosure rather than outright restriction, impacting how AI-assisted music is monetized and recommended.
YouTube Music announced Wednesday the rollout of a new labeling system aimed at improving transparency around songs created with the help of generative AI. Listeners will now be able to easily identify tracks created using AI, including those involved in composition and vocals. The label will appear on the player page, and clicking on it provides additional information about the specific role of AI in the track’s creation. These labels will also extend to the main YouTube app. YouTube collaborated with music partners and deployed its own detection tools, allowing partners to declare their work’s use of generative AI through "Fully Gen AI," "Partly Gen AI," or "No Gen AI." Tracks edited using pitch-correction tools like Auto-Tune fall under the “No Gen AI” category. This move follows similar initiatives by other platforms, including Apple Music's planned "Made With AI" labels, Spotify's AI labels and spam filter, Deezer's exclusion of AI music from recommendations, and TIDAL's labeling of entirely AI-generated recordings.
