Asset manager 21Shares has released a report detailing its investment case for XRP, which has seen significant inflows into U.S. spot ETFs despite lagging price performance. The report identifies regulatory clarity, institutional access, measurable utility, and fixed supply as key justifications for holding the token.
The resolution of Ripple's four-year legal battle with the SEC in August 2025 has addressed regulatory concerns, paving the way for institutional adoption. Following this, seven U.S. spot XRP ETFs launched in November 2025, attracting $1.3 billion in their initial month. Major financial institutions like Goldman Sachs and Citadel have shown interest, with Goldman Sachs holding $153.8 million in XRP ETFs in a Q4 2025 filing before exiting the position, while Citadel built a substantial bullish stake.
On the utility front, the XRP Ledger (XRPL) has settled close to half a trillion dollars in on-chain value over the past 12 months. Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin has grown to approximately $1.6 billion since its launch, and tokenized real-world assets on XRPL are valued at nearly $4 billion. JPMorgan and Ondo recently completed a cross-border tokenized treasury settlement on the ledger, and the new Multi-Purpose Token standard aims to embed compliance rules at the protocol level.
XRP has a fixed supply of 100 billion tokens, with over 14 million burned through transaction fees. While escrow releases follow a predictable schedule, they also increase circulating supply over time. Despite these developments, XRP has traded in a narrow range of $1.35-$1.45 in mid-September 2026, indicating that increased usage and adoption have not yet fully translated into price appreciation. XRP futures volume reached a six-month high in August, and whale activity has rebounded.
