WWII Russian love song 'Katyusha' becomes TikTok's latest viral hit

Written shortly before World War II, 'Katyusha' gained deeper significance after Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, becoming associated with the Soviet war effort. It was also famously used as the nickname for the Soviet BM-13 multiple rocket launcher.

The song's modern revival is largely due to music producers who have remixed the melody with contemporary electronic styles, such as phonk and ultrafunk, featuring heavy basslines and fast rhythms. These remixes have become popular soundtracks for gaming, fitness, and cinematic short-form content on TikTok. Its simple, recognizable melody and emotional vocals contribute to its appeal across language barriers.

Further boosting the trend, controversial influencer Andrew Tate shared a stylized military-themed video on June 10, captioned 'Strength and honor!', which featured the song and garnered significant attention.
