- Victoria leads Australia with 2,610 megawatts of installed wind capacity.
Victoria, Australia, has approved the Warracknabeal Energy Park, a large-scale wind farm project that, if completed, would be the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. State authorities, led by Planning Minister Sonya Kilkenny, have given the green light for the project, which will now proceed to the federal environment minister for final checks. WestWind Energy plans to construct 219 turbines and install two 300-megawatt battery energy storage systems across 26,000 hectares of farmland in Victoria's wheat belt. The energy park is projected to generate 1.5 gigawatts of renewable energy, sufficient to power 1.2 million homes. This development comes as Australia aims to transition away from coal-fired power, with a target of 82% renewable electricity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. Victoria currently leads the country in installed wind capacity.
