Brent crude oil prices surpassed $91 per barrel following an attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident, reported by UKMTO, caused engine room damage and a crew casualty, raising security concerns in the critical shipping lane.
The attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global oil and LNG shipments, has heightened security concerns and contributed to a significant rise in crude oil prices, potentially impacting global energy markets and geopolitical stability.
Brent crude oil prices surged past $91 per barrel after a cargo vessel was struck by multiple unknown projectiles approximately 40 nautical miles southeast of Yemen's Mocha. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported the incident, stating the vessel suffered engine room damage and a crew casualty. The vessel, which was unmanned at the time, sustained 'complete constructive loss.' The Omani Coast Guard is assisting the remaining crew, and no environmental impact has been reported. Analysts cited the attack, alongside renewed fighting in Lebanon, as factors contributing to the oil price increase, raising concerns about potential supply disruptions in the critical Strait of Hormuz shipping lane.
