The ongoing international aid is crucial for Venezuela's recovery efforts following a devastating earthquake, highlighting the country's vulnerability and economic challenges.
The death toll from twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has climbed to 4,734, with 16,740 injured and 17,907 people homeless, according to figures released by top lawmaker Jorge Rodríguez. The back-to-back quakes, including a 7.5-magnitude tremor, caused widespread devastation. The European Union announced on Wednesday it is providing an additional €20 million ($22.8 million) in humanitarian aid to help Venezuela deal with the aftermath. This latest package, which will fund medical equipment and support search-and-rescue teams, is in addition to a €5 million aid package approved in June and €52 million in assistance announced earlier in the year, bringing the total EU aid for Venezuela in 2024 to €77 million. Venezuela faces a massive recovery effort, exacerbated by a prolonged economic crisis.
