The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on July 18, 2026, that Russia has sustained approximately 1,427,410 troops since the full-scale invasion commenced on Feb. 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,420 casualties reported over the preceding day.
In addition to personnel losses, the report detailed significant equipment attrition for Russian forces, including 12,151 tanks, 24,956 armored combat vehicles, 46,169 artillery systems, 1,946 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,502 air defense systems, 438 aircraft, 354 helicopters, and 414,798 drones. Russia has also lost 121,742 vehicles and fuel tanks, 1,943 ground robotic systems, 34 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine's General Staff has withheld its own casualty figures, citing operational security. However, independent Western think-tank reports, such as one from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in January 2026, suggest that Russian casualties significantly outweigh Ukraine's, estimating a ratio of "roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1." The CSIS report further estimated that Ukraine likely suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties between February 2022 and December 2025, with 100,000 to 140,000 of those believed to be killed in action.
