The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported on July 16, 2026, that Russia has sustained approximately 1,424,620 troops since the full-scale invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,340 casualties reported for the preceding day.
In addition to personnel losses, the report detailed significant equipment attrition for Russian forces, including 12,144 tanks, 24,940 armored combat vehicles, 46,019 artillery systems, and 411,005 drones. Russia has also reportedly lost 120,727 vehicles and fuel tanks, 1,936 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,492 air defense systems, 437 aircraft, 353 helicopters, 1,936 ground robotic systems, 34 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine's military has not disclosed its own losses, citing operational security. However, independent Western analysis, such as a January 2026 report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), suggests that Russian casualties significantly outweigh those of Ukraine. CSIS estimated Ukraine's total casualties between February 2022 and December 2025 to be between 500,000 and 600,000, with 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action. The same report indicated a casualty ratio for Russia to Ukraine ranging from roughly 2.5:1 to 2:1.
