Ukraine is in the final stages of concluding a drone agreement with Germany, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. He stated that the deal, proposed months ago, will cover the joint development of various types of drones, missiles, and related software, thereby enhancing the defense capabilities of both nations.
Zelenskiy announced the progress after a call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, noting that their teams are finalizing the text of the agreement. This deal builds upon existing defense cooperation between Germany and Ukraine. Notably, Germany is funding an order for 50,000 Shrike attack drones produced by Ukrainian manufacturer SkyFall, representing one of the largest drone purchases for Kyiv by a Western government.
Further strengthening bilateral defense ties, German defense technology company Quantum Systems and Ukrainian manufacturer WIY Drones established a joint venture named Quantum WIY Industries. This venture aims to increase the production of interceptor drones and related air-defense technologies. Germany is also supporting Ukraine through a multi-million-euro program to supply 15,000 Strila interceptor drones designed to counter Shahed-type attack drones.
