Ukraine's Navy announced on Oct. 29 that it had destroyed two Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber jets using Neptune missiles in a strike against the Marinovka military airfield in Russia's Volgograd Oblast. The targeted aircraft belonged to the 11th Mixed Aviation Regiment. The Navy did not provide visual confirmation, and The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the claim. The Su-34 is a key aircraft for Russia's aerial attacks against Ukraine. Ukraine's military intelligence agency stated that Russia has lost 43 Su-34 aircraft destroyed and seven damaged since the invasion began, estimating that the number of destroyed aircraft represents roughly 2.5 to 3 years of production. This strike follows a similar attack on Oct. 15 that destroyed four Su-34M jets using Neptune missiles.
