The title insurance industry generated $5.3 billion in premiums during the second quarter of 2026, marking a nearly 15% increase from $4.5 billion in the same period of 2025, according to the American Land Title Association’s (ALTA) latest Market Share Analysis. The growth was significantly fueled by a strong performance in commercial real estate transactions.
ALTA CEO Chris Morton stated that the continued investment in manufacturing, industrial facilities, and other major developments across the country underscores the vital role of title insurance in ensuring certainty around ownership, access, and property rights. He highlighted that title professionals provide essential expertise and protection, enabling investors and lenders to proceed with confidence.
Financially, the industry saw its total operating income increase by 2.9% in the second quarter compared to the previous year. The sector reported total assets of $12 billion, with statutory surplus reaching $5.4 billion and statutory reserves at $5.8 billion.
For the first six months of 2026, title insurance premium volume saw a 16.1% rise compared to the first half of 2025. Claims paid during this period amounted to nearly $327 million, a slight decrease from approximately $336 million in the first six months of 2025.
In terms of market share among leading underwriters, First American Title Insurance Co. led with 23.3% in the second quarter. Fidelity National Title Insurance Co. followed with 15.8%, Chicago Title Insurance Co. with 13.2%, Old Republic National Title Insurance Co. with 13.1%, and Stewart Title Guaranty Co. with 10.9%.
Texas led state premium volume with $736.9 million, an increase of 9.8% year-over-year. Florida followed with $618.1 million (up 15.2%), California with $464.8 million (up 12.9%), New York with $315.3 million (up 18.7%), and Ohio with $222 million (up 60.1%).
