Senator Thom Tillis warned President Donald Trump that he also possesses the president's phone number, responding to Trump's recent action of leaking Senator Tom Cotton's contact information. Tillis made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on ABC's "The View."
Trump had posted Cotton's phone number on his Truth Social platform over the weekend, urging supporters to call the Arkansas senator to pressure him on his stance regarding permanent daylight saving time. Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina, told the show's hosts, "With all due respect, I got his number too."
The senator, who is retiring at the end of his current term, was on the program to promote his new book, "How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents," which reportedly includes private text exchanges between himself and Trump. Tillis stated he was "not at all" concerned about potential retaliation from the president regarding the book's contents.
During the interview, Tillis reflected on his vote to confirm Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, calling it the "biggest regret" of his congressional career. When pressed by host Alyssa Farah Griffin about a new House resolution to impeach Hegseth, Tillis said he was unsure of its success but added, "I hope he gets fired."
Tillis also acknowledged Trump's status as a "great political force" but noted a significant decline in his support among key voting blocs, particularly Hispanic voters. Citing an NBC News and Telemundo survey, Tillis observed that "the support among Hispanics has almost evaporated," which he suggested could jeopardize the coalitions Trump previously assembled.
