Australia's Sunrise Energy Metals is planning to move its parent company to the United States and pursue a primary listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange. The company announced on Friday that a newly incorporated Delaware company, Sunrise Energy Metals, Inc., will become the group's parent, acquiring all existing Sunrise shares. Following the implementation of this scheme, the company intends to maintain a secondary listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).
This strategic shift is linked to a conditional commitment of up to $400 million from the U.S. Department of Defense, intended for Sunrise's Syerston Scandium Project located in New South Wales. The project has secured its key permits and is projected to commence production in the first half of 2028, with an anticipated annual output of approximately 60 metric tons of scandium oxide, according to the company's 2026 annual report.
Scandium is identified as a critical mineral, gaining prominence in Western defense and technology sectors, particularly since China, the primary producer, imposed export controls. Sunrise Energy Metals stated that the relocation will not alter its core business, assets, operations, or projects, and its leadership team is expected to remain in place. Earlier in the session, shares of Sunrise Energy Metals saw a 6.9% increase, trading at A$23.060.
