A survey commissioned by crypto exchange OKX reveals a significant demand among US college students and parents for cryptocurrency and blockchain education, with 90% of students and 87% of parents supporting such courses. A notable portion, 27% of students and 32% of parents, believe these subjects should be mandatory.
Despite this strong demand, formal educational offerings appear limited. A separate review of 533 US universities with accredited business schools found that only about 28% currently offer blockchain courses. This gap between student interest and available coursework means many students are turning to other sources for information.
When asked about their primary sources of crypto education, 33% of students surveyed by OKX identified social media or influencers, a figure nearly five times higher than those who cited schools, teachers, or professors. For parents, crypto platforms and apps emerged as the leading source of information at 21%.
The OKX survey involved 500 students and 500 parents, distributed via Pollfish. The survey respondents were not recruited from OKX's customer base. The exchange did not disclose details regarding the survey's weighting, margin of error, or the crypto ownership rates of the participants.
