Spotify is formalizing its enterprise and developer tools business with the launch of technology.spotify.com, a new website that will make its internal tech available to outsiders. The company has been offering various products to the wider tech community since 2020, starting with the open-sourcing of Backstage, a platform for building customizable developer portals.
Since then, Spotify has also been selling its enterprise software experimentation platform Confidence since 2023 and its enterprise software development platform Portal since 2024. Earlier this year, it began selling Xirp, a developer tool for managing AI coding agents.
While many tech companies develop internal systems for developer efficiency, it is less common for a company like Spotify to sell these tools to other businesses. Tyson Singer, Spotify's SVP of Technology & Platform, acknowledged this unusual move, stating that the company's consumer app is supported by hundreds of cross-functional squads shipping products and code daily.
