The report was approved with bipartisan consensus at a meeting of the land, infrastructure and transport committee. However, the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) declared Hong unfit for the position. PPP Rep. Yoo Ui-dong, the committee chair, stated that the ruling Democratic Party's positive assessment of Hong was based on his experience as a former official in the Gyeonggi provincial government and as second vice land minister.
